We are an independent testing lab with a team of exceptional engineers and a customer-centric mindset 

SGS MSi is a leading laboratory in the fields of Metallurgical Testing and Failure Analysis. It participates in any stage of the manufacturing process, validating raw materials, solving production related problems, assessing finished and semi-finished goods, or analyzing product failures as well as providing high end metallurgical engineering services. SGS MSi employs 48 highly skilled staff.

The laboratory is now 33,000 sq. ft. with a layout that appears to have been custom built for the daily flow of laboratory testing. Air tubes, bar code scanning and airport display technology provide real time display of sample locations and due dates. This technology allows our department managers and customers service staff to insure that all testing reaches our clients on time.

We want to personally thank our loyal clients who have helped us grow to this point and welcome all of our new clients who are just being introduced to the SGS MSi customer driven attitude.

Our history…

Metallurgical Service Inc was originally founded in December of 1985.  MSi was one of the earliest accredited labs within the A2LA metals testing program and secured accreditation in 1990.

The goal for MSi was to provide fast turn-around and engineering supported customer service. MSi is one of the largest metallurgical laboratories in the nation that is still USA owned and operated.

From our humble beginnings in Maywood and the original 2,000 sq. ft. of laboratory, MSi grew to fill the entire 20,000 sq. ft. building in Maywood with a complete machine shop, chemistry laboratory, sales department and a customer service staff.

Our name changed to “MSi Testing & Engineering, Inc.” on December 1st, 2005. We changed the name because all of our clients called us by our acronym MSi ( “Metallurgical Services” was a lot to say). The “Testing & Engineering” portion of the name was added because it better described the two types of metallurgical services we provided. We had essentially branded the term MSi as synonymous with superior testing and engineering services with a reputation as a recognized leader in metallurgical testing and failure analysis services.
