LECO Metal Analysis

SGS MSi offers LECO Combustion Analysis of metals and alloys for carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen using state of the art LECO Combustion, Infrared Absorption and Thermal Conductivity Determinators. These test methods produce a high level of accuracy and precision that are especially useful for low detection limits of these elements.

LECO analysis is performed in accordance with:

  • ASTM E1019
  • ASTM E1409

Carbon and Sulfur

Our carbon and sulfur analysis system involves sample combustion and measurement of combustion gas absorption in the infrared region. We weigh your material, heat and combust in a flow of pure oxygen. As a result of this combustion process, the carbon and sulfur components are oxidized to form CO2 and SO2 respectively.

Oxygen and Nitrogen

Our oxygen and nitrogen analysis incorporates gas fusion in a graphite crucible under a flowing inert gas stream (Helium) and the measurement of combustion gases by infrared absorption and thermal conductivity. Following this fusion process oxygen combines with carbon to form CO2 and nitrogen is released as N2.

Hydrogen

Our hydrogen analysis incorporates gas fusion in a graphite crucible under a flowing inert gas stream (Argon) and the measurement of combustion gases by infrared absorption and thermal conductivity. Following this fusion process oxygen combines with carbon to form CO2, after passing through a final filter, hydrogen is released as H2.

Our LECO Determinators are calibrated for:

  • Carbon steels
  • Stainless Steels
  • Alloy steels
  • Cast Iron
  • Nickel Alloys
  • Titanium Alloys
  • Cobalt Alloys
