Steel Manufacturing Metallurgical Testing

Ensure steel and steel alloys used in your application can tolerate intended operating environments with precision testing and engineering solutions from SGS MSi, an A2LA and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. A leader in the fields of metallurgical testing and failure analysis, our specialties include validating raw materials, solving production-related concerns, assessing finished and semi-finished goods, investigating product failures and performing high-end metallurgical engineering services.

SGS MSi has more than three decades of experience with materials used in steel manufacturing applications, making our specialists and chemists uniquely qualified to provide testing, analysis and certifications. We can test, examine and analyze specimens in accordance with Association of American Railroads and ASTM standards or any other industry specification or customer requirement.

Materials we analyze have undergone specialty heat treating, normalizing, stress relieving, quenching and tempering, spheroidizing and pearlite annealing, among other processes. Our team can test and analyze materials to ensure they have optimal characteristics including hardenability, machinability, grain size and porosity.

At SGS MSi, we are dedicated to providing superior testing, analysis and certification services to our customers. We use industry-leading equipment backed by regular calibration records. For each test, traceable and repeatable documentation detailing test type, parameters and data obtained is provided.

Our highly trained team performs the following examinations for steel manufacturing applications:
