Stainless Steel 300 x 400 Series

With over three decades’ of metallurgical experience, the SGS MSi team provides positive material identification (PMI) and chemical analysis for all stainless steel types. Many industries use stainless steel to manufacture tools, devices and other products.

Trusted by the aerospace, construction, food processing, and automotive industries, stainless steel alloys are known for being durable, easy to maintain, resistant to corrosion and stains, and attractive in luster. While nickel is present in most stainless steel formulations, the metals that improve corrosion resistance include chromium, molybdenum, and copper. The higher these alloy ratios, the more likely the stainless steel will be corrosion and rust resistant.

Using state-of-the-art testing methods, our experienced chemists determine whether your inventory has been mixed—and whether 300 series SS and 400 series SS composition support your intended application. Used to provide rapid determination of metal sorting issues, PMI testing techniques methods include “wet” chemical methods like Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICP), along with X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES).
